BlueBRIDGE survey results on over 200 member of the French Business and Sea Innovation Cluster, the Pôle Mer Bretagne Atlantique, are now available on Zenodo, the research data repository created by OpenAIRE and CERN.

EC Plan for demersal fish stocks in the North Sea


On 3 August 2016 the European Commission has proposed a multi-annual plan for demersal fish stocks in the North Sea, aiming to ensure that stocks are fished at sustainable levels. The demersal sector in the North Sea represents more than 70% of the whole fishing sector and corresponds to more than 850 million euros in landed value.

Droughts, floods, storms and other disasters triggered by climate or human drivers have risen in frequency and/or severity over the last few decades, and have caused increasing damage to developing countries and to agriculture sectors such as fisheries and aquaculture. A recent study by FAO shows that the agriculture sectors absorbs approximately 22 percent of the economic impact caused by medium- and large scale natural hazards and disasters in developing countries...

BlueBRIDGE aims to deliver tailor made data management services to different communities (aquaculture, ecosystem approach to fisheries and education) and stakeholders (international organisations, research centres, enterprises, etc). What are the challenges faced by these communities in the field of data management? Is there a demand for the services designed by BlueBRIDGE? Are there any gaps in the market of data management services for the marine and aquaculture sector that BlueBRIDGE can fill? Can the BlueBRIDGE innovative technologies support education? We have asked these questions to the members of the French Business and Sea Innovation Cluster, the Pôle Mer Bretagne Atlantique, through an online survey.

Over 200 responses have been collected and today we would like to share the results with you!

European Commission Annoucement - Sustainable fisheries: policy makers need the science community


Yesterday, 9 June 2016, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus E.Shestakov, made a very important annoucement during the 21st North Atlantic Fisheries Conference: to create a joint ocean science agenda for the North Atlantic.

Fisheries: Commission decentralises and simplifies technical conservation measures


On Friday, the European Commission, continuing to deliver on its commitment to Better Regulation, presented a proposal for new conservation measures for fisheries in European seas. These are rules on how, where and when fishermen may fish, also determining gear, catch composition and ways to deal with accidental catches.
